Turn the unit off, remove the front panel, and check whether the filter is visibly dusty — cleaning it resolves a surprising number of leak complaints. While the panel is open, also glance at the drain outlet for visible blockage, and make sure nothing (curtains, furniture, a bent bracket) is tilting the indoor unit out of its intended level.

Why the Drain Line Matters More Than People Think

The condensate drain line is a narrow tube, and over months it can accumulate algae, dust, or insect debris until it’s partially or fully blocked. Once that happens, water backs up inside the unit and finds the nearest gap to escape through — usually straight down the front panel and onto the floor or wall below.

When to Call a Professional

If cleaning the filter doesn’t stop the dripping within a day, or if you notice water stains spreading on the ceiling or wall around the unit, it’s time to call for a proper inspection. Left unaddressed, a persistent leak can damage plaster, encourage mould, and in some cases damage the electronics inside the indoor unit itself.

Don’t ignore ceiling stains: a slow drip inside the wall cavity can do far more damage than the visible drip you can see — get it checked even if the leak seems minor.

No. A new rattle, click, or grinding sound almost always means something is loose, worn, or about to fail. Running it for a few more days rarely saves money and often turns a small repair into a compressor or motor replacement.

How long does it usually take to diagnose an AC breakdown?

A technician can typically identify the cause of a no-cooling complaint within 20–30 minutes using pressure gauges and a basic electrical check. Electrical or PCB faults can occasionally take longer to isolate.

Is every “AC not cooling” complaint a compressor problem?

Not at all. Low refrigerant, a dirty filter or coil, a faulty capacitor, or a tripped overload protector are all far more common than an actual compressor failure — and each is cheaper and quicker to fix.

Does an AMC plan actually prevent breakdowns?
